Paint & Positivity Studio: A New Beginning

Last May, Black-Owned Brunswick had the pleasure of featuring Paint & Positivity Studio, a vibrant art space that has become a creative cornerstone in Brunswick. Today, we’re thrilled to share the next chapter of their journey: a move to a brand-new location that embodies growth, vision, and limitless possibilities.

Meet the Visionary: Kristen Hobbs Harper

Behind the success of Paint & Positivity Studio is Brunswick native Kristen Hobbs Harper, a dedicated artist and entrepreneur whose story is one of resilience and creativity. Kristen’s journey began eight years ago when she discovered painting as a personal retreat from the challenges of motherhood. Late nights spent creating art became her solace, a time when she could pour her energy into something that brought her joy and peace.

Encouraged by friends and family to share her work, Kristen hosted her first paint party—a defining moment in her journey. What she anticipated would be a small gathering of 25 people turned into an unforgettable event with over 60 attendees. It was then she realized the potential of combining her love for art with her passion for bringing people together.

But the path wasn’t easy. Kristen relied on hard work and determination to make her dream a reality, taking on side hustles like Uber, DoorDash, and Instacart to fund her vision. With no loans or grants, she built her business from the ground up, fueled by faith and her connection to the Brunswick community.

Kristen’s studio isn’t just a business—it’s a family. She describes the environment as one where people from all backgrounds come together to create, relax, and connect. “When you step into Paint & Positivity Studio, negativity fades away. It’s a place where creativity and community thrive.”

A New Location, A Fresh Start

The move to Paint & Positivity Studio’s new location marks a major milestone in Kristen’s journey. This bright, colorful, and inviting space reflects her vision for what an art studio should be: a haven of creativity, positivity, and connection.

The larger studio offers more opportunities for growth and new ventures. One of the most exciting additions is a childcare center, approved by Bright from the Start. This innovative offering includes holiday camps, Parents’ Day Out, and Parents’ Night Out programs, allowing busy moms and dads to enjoy creative sessions while their children are cared for on-site. “It’s a game-changer for parents,” Kristen shares. “They can relax, create, and have fun, knowing their kids are nearby in a safe and nurturing environment.”

The expanded space also allows Paint & Positivity Studio to host larger events and bring even more creative ideas to life. From intimate paint-and-sip nights to community-driven workshops, the possibilities are endless.

Supporting the Community with Vibe & Thrive

Vibe & Thrive Market: A vibrant quarterly event founded by Kristen Hobbs Harper, celebrating small businesses and artists of color.

Kristen’s commitment to uplifting others goes beyond her studio walls. The Vibe & Thrive Market, a quarterly vendor event, provides a platform for Black-owned businesses and artisans to showcase their talents, connect with the community, and grow. Inspired by her 2021 art and music festival, The Family Reunion, this market celebrates culture, creativity, and collaboration.

The market offers more than just a space to sell goods. It’s a place where vendors can network and form valuable connections—whether it’s a graphic designer meeting a small business owner or an artisan discovering a new collaborator. “The possibilities for growth and collaboration are endless,” Kristen says. “By highlighting these businesses, we’re making sure they get the visibility and recognition they deserve.”

Rooted in Brunswick

Kristen’s love for her hometown is at the heart of everything she does. As a Brunswick native, she’s passionate about creating spaces that reflect the spirit of her community—vibrant, resilient, and full of creativity. Paint & Positivity Studio is a place where locals can come together, share their stories, and explore their artistic side.

Whether it’s through family-friendly paint parties, relaxing adult art nights, or the bustling Vibe & Thrive Market, Kristen ensures her studio remains a welcoming and inclusive space. “This community has supported me every step of the way, and I’m committed to giving back by creating opportunities for others to grow and thrive.”

Looking Ahead

As Kristen reflects on her journey, her vision for Paint & Positivity Studio continues to expand. She dreams of creating a one-of-a-kind creative hub that offers workshops and events for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. She also envisions the Vibe & Thrive Market growing into a traveling event that inspires other communities across the country.

Kristen’s ultimate goal is to leave a legacy of generational wealth and creativity for her children. “This business isn’t just for me—it’s for my family and my community. I want to teach my children the value of hard work, resilience, and the power of following your dreams.”

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: “Never give up. There will be challenges, but your dreams are worth it. Stay focused, bet on yourself, and keep pushing forward. Your voice, your vision, and your presence in the business world matter.”
